From
Sunday School classes to potluck dinners -- worship services to board meetings
-- at the heart of all we do in the church is one single focus: to
evangelize and to disciple people in every cultural-linguistic group on
the planet.
This is the church's primary reason for being. It is the one great task
the church was commissioned to do. It is our singular mission.
At Silent Blessings our focus on missions is the largest unreached people
group in North America -- the Deaf Community. Did you know . . .
- There are over 23 million Americans with hearing
loss. Over 750,000 are considered severely to profoundly
deaf.
- Hearing loss affects one out of every four families
in America.
- Deaf people are members of a unique socio-linguistic group,
complete with their own culture and language.
- Only about 8 in 100 Deaf people attend church. Perhaps
4% of Deaf people in the U.S. know Jesus Christ as Savior.
That last number is particularly alarming! Considering the size of the
Deaf population in this country, it is astounding there are so few effective
outreach programs. This great need must be shared with the church.
Through
our concert and preaching ministry in churches all over the nation, Silent
Blessings is trying to change that! Rev. Marshall Lawrence, our founder
and Executive Director, has long been regarded as an innovative and gifted
singer, songwriter, and speaker. He effectively blends music, humor, video,
sign language, and lots of congregational participation into a powerful
presentation on missions -- particularly missions to the Deaf!
His presentation has been heard worldwide on the Focus on the Family radio
broadcast. He's eager to present this message live to your congregation
-- either as part of your weekly worship experience or as a missions convention
speaker and resource person. And if you're looking for a way to show just what an impact reaching Deaf people for Christ can make, you may want to have our Director of Ministries, Brance Long, come share with your group. He is living proof of what Christ can do in a life if that life has a chance to "hear" about the Savior!
That's not surprising. Most Deaf people don't go to church. But that is
all the more reason why your people need to hear what Marshall and Brance have to
say! WHY don't they go to church? HOW do Deaf people see the world differently?
WHERE are the missionaries to go into this culture? WHAT can we as a church
do to support their efforts?

Check out Marshall's and Brance's biographies and references. Request a demo of a presentation
on CD or video. You will find these men to be warm, effective communicators
who will stretch your people to see missions in a whole new way. We cannot
fulfill the Great Commission if we forget about the Deaf!
