			Take Your Boss to School Day? Saturday, February 20, 2010 I had the opportunity to take Marshall to class with me today. Well, I didn’t really take him with me. He was invited by the professor. It was a bit like show and tell for college students. Marshall spoke to my Educational Psychology class about what it was like having a Deaf daughter go through the education system. For the class to focus on Education and Psychology excites me, but to incorporate working with Deaf kids is even better! My goal is to counsel Deaf children in an educational setting. It was like indirectly getting to share my passion with the rest of the class through my boss. It was hard for me to not add in my own comments during Marshall’s presentation. (Okay, I admit, it’s typically hard to keep me quiet anyway, but today was extra hard!) I believe the students benefited greatly from their experience in class today. Most of the students are education majors and will, more likely than not, have opportunities to interact with Deaf students. It was a great time for them to learn more about Deaf culture and hear some of Marshall’s experiences with raising a Deaf daughter. Marshall also answered questions that the students had submitted. The questions ranged from “what kinds of accommodations need to be made for Deaf students?” to “what is the different between "Deaf" and "deaf?” I was amazed with the questions the students came up with! They really took the time to think about the subject of Deaf Education! Who knows, maybe some of those students will become teachers for the Deaf!
